Intellectual Property Manager by Linx-AS Earns “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” Certification

Solution ties IP to Enterprise.

Linx-AS LLC, a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) consulting firm and partner in the SAP Industry Value Network (IVN), announced the “Powered by SAP NetWeaver™” certification of its Intellectual Property Manager (IPM) product. The role-based software, built on the SAP Enterprise Portals framework, enables traditional docket and matters management functionality (such as patent or trademark filing), while allowing organizations to relate intellectual property to material specifications, recipes, bills of materials, and other objects in the enterprise system.

“Integrating the legal stewardship of IP with ERP design and processes allows businesses to track hard numbers, like sales and distribution, in addition to monitoring R&D trends and IP health,” states Jeff Frye, president of Linx-AS. “We think this holistic approach to IP portfolio management truly positions companies for long-term success through IP performance optimization and open innovation.”

Linx-AS released IPM in February 2006, at which time the idea of extending IP management to the SAP platform gained instant attention. In a March 2006 AMR Research Alert article “Protecting Intellectual Property in China,” analyst Colin Masson points out, “Linx-AS has a long history of implementing and extending SAP’s new product development and introduction (NPDI), formula management, and environmental health and safety (EH&S) functionality in the chemical, food and beverage, and life sciences industries.”

Masson concludes, “Protecting IP may be an even more compelling reason to consider upgrading to mySAP, as well as using SAP specification and recipe management functionality, rethinking the use of SAP’s security model, and taking advantage of the complementary functionality from Linx-AS’ Intellectual Property Management.”

Coming off of the heels of its new certification, IPM is being promoted in a ramp-up program for Q4 2006. The Vertical Influence Partner (VIP) program offers IPM to select companies from CPG, chemicals, life sciences, and high-tech verticals in an effort to establish industry-targeted best practices for IP management. For their participation in the community, partner companies receive pricing incentives and the ability to influence future releases of IPM.
