Rapidly Growing Specialty Chemical Company

offering environmentally sound solutions for oil & gas facilities

Specialty Chemical

Business Challenge

The Houston-based specialty chemical company experienced rapid expansion in a short ten-year time frame. But, as growth continued, it was evident that the legacy system for incident and accident tracking was inadequate and could not give decision makers crucial information in real-time when they needed it. The system was unsupported and became too difficult to add new functionality.

In today’s world of high regulation and corporate responsibility, growth through expansion cannot compromise compliant EH&S practices; thus, the organization defined three objectives for incident & accident tracking and reporting:

  • Increase the efficiency and traceability of incident & accident reporting by replacing the existing system and enabling automated notifications to users
  • Achieve maximum business value by integrating SAP EHS software with corporate business processes and existing SAP systems
  • Implement a scalable solution that would support the company’s projected growth

The Solution

Building on its existing SAP foundation, the specialty chemicals company chose to deploy the incident and accident management functionality of SAP Environment, Health & Safety (SAP EHS) due to its tight integration with HR, materials management, quality management, and production planning functionality within the SAP ERP application.

In addition, the Linx-AS Environment, Health & Safety Consulting practice along with the its UEx team developed a web-based application on the SAP NetWeaver Portal to report and track quality notifications seamlessly with incidents and accidents. The overall scope of the solution included:

  • The incident and accident management functionality of the SAP EHS application
  • Web-based application that allowed reporting and management of incidents/accidents and quality notifications on the same screen
  • Automatic creation of relationships between incidents to quickly produce reports necessary for regulatory compliance
  • Automated workflow and accelerated process within the quality notification software and in the functionality for incident & accident management
  • Simplified EHS reporting and compliance, including ISO certification
